Library Porn

One of the themes which is emerging from #blogeverydayofjune are bookshelves. We have seen bookshelves from @flexnib, @KatieTT, and @haikugirlOz amongst others and it was this post about bookshelves that also makes you want to dream amd fantasise about shelving and storage.

Books give a room a soul. They add colour, personality and warmth to a space. Some people don’t like shelves with books, as they make a room look messy; I, on the other hand think they make a room look lived-in and comfortable.

All our bedrooms have bookshelves, in varying states of order, the kitchen and dining room have books as well as the music room (Mr BGs room) and the lounge room.

I was seriously considering buying this house in Ballarat due to their bookshelf in the hallway. I was only diverted from the purchase by the fact it had no central heating, the kitchen and bathroom were pretty basic and the garden was too small.

So I ended up with this…

My books are on the left (note pile of unread ones) and Mr BG’s are on the right, along with the CD player and stereo which has sadly bitten the bullet. Actually to be more precise, bitten several pink plastic pearls which were inserted into the CD player by Master and Miss BG. The fire grate is for coal rather than wood and we haven’t used it yet.

This is the before picture of our shelves in our dining room. They’re filled with toys, kid’s books, papers and crafty bits and pieces- a bit messy at the moment :)

I have bookshelf envy… with all your lovely book shelf photos, you have inspired me – I will do a bookshelf post this week.

  3. I seriously need more book shelves.

When my parents were looking for a new place they were scandalised by the number of houses that had a) no bookshelf and b) no room for book shelves. Given that Dad has 4+ floor-to-ceiling shelves it was a necessary requirement that he have a place to put them. I dread going through them when my folks pass on.

We installed bookcases in the first house we bought, and left them behind for the new owners when we moved to Ballarat. We’re looking at installing more bookshelves in Mr BG’s music room. I don’t envy your task of going thru yr parents’ books- we had to do the same when my inlaws passed away.

  4. Cool post. Love that website – amazing. I love a good bookcase and those were inspiring. Off to re-renovate the house now!!
